Derma Medical Dermatology

John Kwon, M.D.

Growing up in Illinois, Dr. John Kwon was accepted into the charter class of Illinois’ first all state magnet high school for the gifted, the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.  From there Dr. Kwon achieved entrance into three highly competitive early acceptance medical programs at Brown University, Boston University, and Northwestern University.
Dr. Kwon enrolled in the Accelerated Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University.  For the undergraduate portion of the program, he obtained a bachelor of arts in art theory and practice.  During his art tutelage under notable Chicago artists and teachers, he studied print making, sculpture, painting, drawing, art history, and art criticism.
Dr. Kwon continued on to receive his medical degree at the Northwestern University School of Medicine in downtown Chicago.  After completing his internship at Evanston Hospital in the department of internal medicine, he procured a highly desirable residency position in dermatology.  Dr. Kwon completed a three year residency program in dermatology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Dr. Kwon became officially board certified in 2000, successfully passing a rigorous two day examination.  Dr. Kwon became a fellow of the American Society for Mohs Surgery in 2003, and he is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Kwon came to Arizona in 2000 and officially opened Derma medical dermatology and Aura Skin & Laser in 2004.  He currently treats a variety of skin disorders in infants, children, teens, adults, and the elderly.  Dr. Kwon performs many dermatologic procedures, including Mohs surgery, skin cancer treatments, and cosmetic procedures.

Kristina Todd PA-C

Kristina grew up in Austin, Texas, and relocated to Arizona in 2002.  She did her undergraduate studies at ASU where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology in 2010 and graduated summa cum laude.  Kristina was accepted into the physician assistant program at A.T. Still University in 2011.  She graduated and has been certified since 2013. She originally focused on internal medicine and urgent care but has always had a passion for dermatology.  Kristina is a member of the Society for Dermatology Physician Assistants, the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and the Arizona Dermatology Physician Assistant Society and attends regular meetings for each of these.  She enjoys spending time with her husband and three kids, playing soccer, and hiking.

Aura Skin & Laser

Melanie Desbiens Kwon LE

Born in Illinois, Melanie spent her young adult life in the Chicago land area and studied photography and other fine arts at the College of Lake County where she received her associate degree in art.  From there Melanie sought study abroad, focusing on French language studies, sculpture, and philosophy at the prestigious Sorbonne in Paris, France. Melanie went on to work in the Hollywood film industry under Danny Devito, Michael Shamberg, and Stacey Sher before pursuing a lifelong interest in the skin and its health by studying aesthetics.  After completing training at the National Aesthetics Institute of Scottsdale, she became board certified in aesthetics in 2004.  In the same year Melanie launched Aura Skin & Laser in conjunction with her husband’s medical dermatology practice, Derma.  After establishing the core cosmetic services and protocols at Aura, Melanie became its executive manager.  Melanie currently oversees Aura Skin & Laser and serves as a consultant for aesthetics and cosmetic skin care at Derma.
